First post. Am I supposed to add a "YAY!" here? No? Okay then. Boy, I'm having such a flashback to those days spent on LiveJournal. Tumblr was easier and the reblogging made things both easier and more impersonal, if you ask me.
But, wait, don't go, I like comments!
In order for people to comment and tell me about all the ways I'm wrong though, I probably need to post something. So I've decided to do an intro to the whos and hows of me by shitposting about stuff I love. This way, when it will continue on and on even after my billionth (as if, ha!) post, I can always say "Warned ya!".
I love meta, I love discussion, I love theories about books, TV and movies, so do chime in, please *screams into the void*.

Date: 2018-12-18 03:22 am (UTC)Journaling is fun and yep more personal! But I liked how easy it was to push the reblog button on Tumblr lol.
LJ also add a heart that is missing here but hey we have to have some challenges, no?
I can't believe how your icon looks so much like my gordon setter :-) He passed away two years ago but what a companion!
Anywho, I really enjoyed the movie 12 monkeys cause I saw it in a turn of century theater with the director talking to us about his process before showing us La Jetee (ie the french short of 22 minutes) that inspired it and staying around to discuss for another 2 hours, it was an incredible experience!
I've only watched the first season on TV so far but mostly because I watch way too much TV and I just don't have enough hours in my day...
So I love lists, and metas, and movies, and a better world, lol...
Have fun!

Date: 2018-12-18 11:43 am (UTC)Oh, I'm incredibly sorry about your setter. I've had cockers for 19 years now and losing a dog is always heart wrenching. The monster on my icon is probably my favorite thing in the world right now.
Oh, the movie with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, right? That's so cool, I've watched on a shitty VHS tape and then sat stunned for 30 minutes thinking about time loops and fate. Which one is better, the french short or the american movie?
If you are watching the TV show, do try to persevere through some of the cheesier stuff - it's only 47 episodes and the finale is incredibly satisfying. I mean, there are actual critics comparing it to Breaking Bad's finale!
Thank you for the encouragement, it helps a lot!

Date: 2018-12-19 04:01 am (UTC)12 Monkeys the movie (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/12_monkeys/) can be seen for free on Amazon Prime I think but boy was it an incredible movie when it came up, in particular because the director Terry Gilliam was part of the Monthy Python comedic team and I just did not expect something so deep, so complex from him at the time. I got to check many of his other films since then and really that was a revelation.
The French short is actually a series of black and white photography narrated in a form of montage that I just rewatched two months ago, and it has its own charm. For me that is like a good fan fiction with a great concept before it can get the Hollywood treatment lol. It's like someone had that great idea and couldn't afford or figure out how to do it, and create that little short, I don't even know how in the 1960's this got enough views to be discovered but hey, I'm glad it did.
I realized I can check all the TV seasons on Netflix, so we might get to discuss the show a bit more in a couple of months (if you are a bit patient with me).

Date: 2018-12-19 08:55 am (UTC)I have some friends who just don't. get. it. When my first dog died of old age I was a mess for a while and hearing "oh, I'm sorry, but you're being too harsh, he was only a dog!" was the farthest thing from helpful. So, in case you just need to talk, or something, I'm available.
I've watched that movie back in 1999, I think! I was still a kid and kind of stole the VHS from my parents.
I love Gilliam's Brothers Grimm (both for the plot and the cast!) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
I really want to check out his Don Quixote, the one with Adam Driver!
It's interesting how short movies sometimes get developed further into actual feature length films. Sometimes it doesn't quite work (I've watched Cargo with Martin Freeman and hunted down the original short and felt like the short film was enough of its own).
Have you watched the Voorman Problem? Now that story I'd love to see in a longer format!
Whenever you want to discuss the show, I'm ready.
